2020 was off to a great start. Chicago was my first project of the year and I couldn’t wait to get back on the road and explore a new city. My assignment started in January and should have ended in May, but because of the current pandemic it was pushed back to July. I thought I would be traveling back to Chicago at that time but the company decided to not have us fly back. I’m sad about that because my whole chi town itinerary was shut down. I found so many amazing places, and by the end of July I couldn’t wait to share a well rounded post of things to see, do, and eat in the windy city. I know I will travel back to Chicago someday and my plan is to write an updated post, but for now, I want to share some photos I was able to capture before leaving way too soon.
Restaurants I Visited
Gus’s World Famous Chicken – omg, I love their fried chicken. I like it more than Harold’s which is a more popular late night spot that also serves fried chicken
Jerky Jerk – I could eat here every day!
Jerk Villa – restaurant and lounge, the service was slow but I wouldn’t mind going back because the food was good
Nando’s – Peruvian food spot, try the hot chicken you will not be disappointed. I must really love chicken
Three Dots and a Dash – island music and tiki bar theme, huge colorful punch bowls with dry ice, expensive for only 1-2 people. I had the Bali Bali – rum and gin & Pupu platter – chicken, shrimp, meatball, egg roll, pot sticker w/ crab
Weber Grill – we went here to have a celebratory dinner after passing panels, great drinks!
Elitea – chinatown, indoor strip mall with different chinese restaurants and stores. I ordered the orange green tea – so refreshing and has great reviews on yelp
Pompei– Italian restaurant near UI Health, I always order the sausage and peppers
Taqueria Los Comales – 18th st., great mexican street tacos
Park Tavern – to be a tavern this place has some really good food. I love the pizza and the bread sticks. Still not a fan of Chicago’s deep dish but to each his own.
Harold’s – popular late night chicken spot
Hawaiian Bro’s – Hawaiian comfort food
Beatnik West town – great place for brunch, gorgeous decor
Some additional places I went to
Cindy’s Rooftop – good breakfast and mimosa’s and an outdoor rooftop with a fire pit over looking millennium park
Cloud Gate also known as The Bean – top instagramable spot, has an ice skating rink a few feet away
Chicago Riverwalk – the waterfront is so beautiful and unique, each bridge has different angles and an amazing backdrop of the city, great skyline views
Utopian Tailgate Rooftop Bar – young crowd, colorful playful decor, near old town area
Skydeck Chicago – 103rd floor at the Willis tower, a great view of Chicago in front of you and beneath your feet by stepping out onto the ledge that has a glass floor
Aire Ancient Baths – US locations are in NYC and Chicago, building is a restored factory, the best spa facility I’ve ever been to, pricey but amazing ambiance with several spa pools and many massage services. Takes you on a journey through the traditional Roman, Greek and Ottoman ancient experience of baths.
