Fellow New York native here and proud. I was born and raised in what we call, upstate New York. I must confess though in all 17 years of my life living in NY, I’ve never made the 6 hour drive into the city! but that’s ok. I made up for it in 2015. My first official visit. Before leaving Allentown and with being so close to Philly and NYC, I knew I wanted to take advantage of that so my coworker and I took the greyhound to NYC. About 2 hours and some change on the bus. I was in complete tourist mode and when I say we walked everywhere, we. walked. I went to every popular land mark there was. The 9/11 memorial – also known as Ground Zero, top of the rock, time square, little Italy + Chinatown, bergdorf, soho district, meat packing district, canal street, Central Park. We didn’t make it to the Statue of Liberty on this trip – I didn’t find out until last year (2019) that even though you can see and visit the Statue of Liberty from NY, it’s closer to the jersey side and that’s where I finally got to see it from a closer viewing point in Jersey City.
I’ve been to the city 4 times discovering something different each trip and there’s still so many restaurants, museums, shows, boroughs I have not been to or haven’t spent a lot of time in. That’s how busy this city is and I love it. I’m sure there will be a 5th, 6th, even 10th time I’ll be back. Always leaving something new for me to discover.
