One weekend I was off from work in CT. I was anxious to explore another new city so I booked a one night stay in Boston. Along the 2 hour drive I stopped at the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, MA. This trip was at the end of January so the lake was frozen solid, but what piqued my interest about this place were the walking trails that intertwined with the lake. Water, or ice in this case, on both sides of the walkway. Although deserted, for me the isolation and stillness was so captivating.
I arrived in Boston by nightfall and I have to say, in my opinion Chicago has the best skyline in the US, but Boston is definitely in the top 5. I loved the drive into the city with stunning views of downtown. I stayed at the Wyndham Boston in Beacon hill, a prime location for walking to many places nearby.
I walked along Charles River, stopped at the Corner Tavern for a small bite, and went to Lookout Rooftop and Bar. This is one of the most popular upscale bars in the city. Great vibes and I loved the igloo’s ! It’s just something about panoramic skyline views seen from above that’s so alluring.
I even met a few out of towners and we got along so well they invited me to a birthday dinner lol. We had dinner at Empire Restaurant and lounge. The restaurant serves mostly Asian favorites and delicacies, and as the night goes on, it transitions into a club-like atmosphere.
The next day I had a Spanish style omelette at a very packed Paramount on Charles street, took some time walking through beacon hill, a very picturesque area filled with many victorian brick row houses and cobblestone streets.
I visited the Isabella Gardner Art Museum and was so taken back by the beautifully designed courtyard. This museum is a masterpiece. The interior consists of European Gothic and renaissance architecture which is one of my favorite historic design styles.
After the museum I went to Harvard. What like it’s hard? – If you don’t get that reference log off for me now. Harvard is a top 8 school in Cambridge MA with one of the best campuses I’ve ever seen. I spent most of my time in Harvard square, as there’s tons of great food, shops, and historic sites in every corner
Places of Interest
Tip Tap Room
Hill Tavern
Harvard Garden Committee
Daryl’s corner Bar – I ordered the sriracha deviled eggs but everything on the menu looked so appetizing.
“It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus”
My next time visiting Massachusetts was on a day trip to Salem. Everything about this place represents October and Halloween. Two of my favorite words. I really wish I could have gone around Halloween but my project ended in September. My sole purpose for this trip was to visit all hocus pocus filming locations because that’s a childhood favorite, and visit anything witchy because I really don’t know any other reason people visit Salem lol.
I went to the Salem Witch Museum and learned a lot about the Salem witch trials, visited the cemetery where many of the witches were buried – the burying point, and oldest burying ground in Salem. I spent most of the time in Historic downtown Salem walking around Essex street, visiting more tourist hot spots, stopped for food, and did some souvenir shopping at crow haven corner – self proclaimed first witch shop in Salem.
