A coworker and I had a couple days off before our assignment ended in Philly, and instead of staying locally we decided to fly somewhere different. 4 hours later we arrived in Phoenix. The first night we freshened up and had dinner at Top of the Rock restaurant, within the hotel, and less than 24 hours later we started the day with breakfast at Nora Jean’s Koffee Kitchen, and then drove 4 hours North to Page.
We booked a tour of Antelope Canyon with Ken’s Tours. The canyon is split into two parts, upper and lower. We chose to tour lower antelope canyon. The experience hiking through the canyon is unforgettable! The sculpture of the canyon’s shape and texture were formed over millions of years due to the strong force of water and wind.
The various shades of color and contrast between light and dark are from the sun’s constant movement throughout the day, shining light into the canyon. Impressive, how light at the right time and place can create something so magical.
One of my favorite sandstone structure’s, known as “The woman in the wind.”
“To describe the Grand Canyon is as impossible as it is unnecessary.” -Unknown
The best quote to summarize my experience. You really have to see it with your own eyes. It’s one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, and the panoramic views of mother earth leaves you at a loss for words. We narrowly missed the sunset, and you know after sundown, there’s only minutes to spare until complete darkness, so I’m happy we were able to view this beauty just in time. Gives me more reasons to come back.
Beautiful Arizona, I wish I had more time with you. 2 days was not enough, but it left me certain I would return to you.

Hotel: Marriott Phoenix Resort
Getting around:
We rented a car but there are tour companies you could book to take you to different sites. I recommend renting a car.
Attractions close to Antelope Canyon:
Horseshoe bend – 11 mins from lower antelope canyon
Lake Powell – 20-25 min drive to Lake Powell resort or boat tour company from lower antelope canyon *we did not get to go there but if you have more time in phoenix or have more time in page, this is not too far. I think it’s worth a visit.
Time Map:
4hr drive from Phoenix hotel to lower antelope canyon in Page
2hr 15 min drive to Grand Canyon National Park from lower antelope canyon.
3hr drive from Grand Canyon to Phoenix hotel
Be Mindful:
The deeper you are into the desert, there are no street lights and we had no cell service. Driving from the canyon back to Phoenix your descending down winding roads most of the way *something to consider if you don’t want to drive back in the dark
The Heat: It’s very hot with almost no humidity. You know the expression if you can’t take the heat get out the kitchen? This… this is the heat they’re referring to. Think human oven or Vegas.
Memorable Moment:
Driving up the canyon at one point was nerve wrecking. There was no guardrail and when you look over, though beautiful, it was a sheer drop to bottom of the canyon. I was driving 10 mph and that’s exactly why I didn’t drive back Lol
